Application
Fragrance for Dhoop & Dhoop Cones.
Dhoop carries its perfume inside the paste rather than on the surface, so the fragrance has to survive mixing, drying and a slow, smouldering burn. Traditional dhoop leans on resins, woods and aromatic roots for exactly that reason.

What the base demands
- Inside the paste
- Perfume is worked into the dhoop mass before shaping, so it must tolerate the binder, moisture and the drying stage without flattening.
- Smoulder, not flame
- A slow smoulder releases heavier materials well. Resinoids, balsams, woods and aromatic roots such as cypriol and jatamansi are the classic backbone.
- Test the dried piece
- Judge a fully dried cone or stick, lit, in a still room. A fresh wet paste tells you little about the finished burn.
Starting doses
| Format | Working load | What limits it |
|---|---|---|
| Dhoop paste | by trial | Depends on the paste, binder and drying; start from your agarbatti compound and adjust on dried samples. |
Every range here is a commercial starting point, not a limit. The IFRA conformity certificate for the specific compound and product category — and the law where you sell — always override it. How to work out your dose →
Families that work
Warm, resinous and spiced: amber, labdanum, benzoin and incense with cinnamon, clove, saffron or pepper. Wood at the centre: sandalwood, cedar, vetiver, guaiac and cashmere woods, with little else competing.

Questions
- Can I use agarbatti perfume in dhoop?
- Often, as a starting point. Dhoop holds perfume in the paste, so re-test the dose on dried, lit samples.
- Which natural materials are traditional in dhoop?
- Resins such as benzoin, olibanum and labdanum, plus woods and aromatic roots such as cypriol (nagarmotha), jatamansi and deodar cedar.
- Why does my dhoop smell weaker after drying?
- Volatile top notes leave with the moisture. Build on heavier resinous and woody materials.
