Application
Attar Oil & Perfume Oil for Manufacturers.
Attar and perfume oils are worn neat or near-neat on skin, with no alcohol to lift them. That makes the quality of the oil — and what it is diluted in — the whole story of how long it lasts.

What the base demands
- Concentration and carrier
- Many oils sold by the kilo already contain a carrier — DPG, DEP, IPM or benzyl benzoate — sometimes at a large fraction. Ask what the oil is diluted in; it changes strength, skin feel and price per wear.
- Tenacity comes from the base
- Long wear comes from woods, resins, musks and ambers. A top-heavy attar fades fast however concentrated it is.
- Selling to consumers makes it a cosmetic
- An oil bottled and sold for wearing on skin is a cosmetic product, and manufacturing cosmetics in India needs a licence. As a raw material to another manufacturer, it is not.
Starting doses
| Format | Working load | What limits it |
|---|---|---|
| Attar worn neat | neat, or diluted in a skin-safe carrier | Leave-on skin use: the IFRA certificate for the relevant category governs. |
| Alcohol-based perfume (EDP) | 10–20% | EDP and EDT are marketing terms, not regulated strengths. |
| Extrait / parfum | 15–30% | Maceration decides the final character, not the dose. |
Every range here is a commercial starting point, not a limit. The IFRA conformity certificate for the specific compound and product category — and the law where you sell — always override it. How to work out your dose →
Families that work
Agarwood at the centre — animalic, woody and resinous — often with rose, saffron, amber and incense. Rose as the signature, from fresh and dewy to dark and jammy, often paired with oud, saffron or patchouli.

Questions
- Why is my attar not long lasting?
- Usually because the composition is top-heavy or heavily diluted in a carrier. Woods, resins, musks and ambers give tenacity; ask what the oil is cut with.
- Is attar better than perfume?
- Neither is better; they behave differently. Attar is oil on skin with a close, slow projection; alcohol perfume opens brighter and projects more at first.
- Do I need a licence to sell attar?
- Selling perfume oil to consumers for use on skin generally makes it a cosmetic, which needs a manufacturing licence in India. Supplying it as a raw material to another manufacturer does not.
