Application
Fragrance for Detergent, Floor Cleaner & Home Care.
Home-care fragrance works at a fraction of a percent and has three jobs: the smell when the pack opens, the smell in the wash or on the floor, and the smell left on dry cloth. A perfume that wins one can lose the other two.

What the base demands
- Three moments, three problems
- Bloom from the pack comes from light top notes; performance in heavy dilution needs mid-volatility materials; what stays on dry cloth needs substantive woods and musks.
- Harsh bases
- Bleach, high pH and enzymes attack many materials. Build for the base you actually sell, not a neutral test solution.
- Never approve on a blotter
- Evaluate at the real dose in the finished product against your current perfume as a blind control, and smell the dry cloth after 24 hours.
Starting doses
| Format | Working load | What limits it |
|---|---|---|
| Liquid detergent | 0.3–0.8% | Only what deposits on cloth counts. |
| Fabric softener | 0.6–1.5% | Deposition-led; price capsule slurries on their active content. |
| Floor & surface cleaner | by trial | Solubility in the base and the cleaner’s own odour set the working level. |
Every range here is a commercial starting point, not a limit. The IFRA conformity certificate for the specific compound and product category — and the law where you sell — always override it. How to work out your dose →
Families that work
Clean, airy and watery: sea notes, ozonic accords, cucumber and fresh citrus over soft woods and musk. Bright citrus peel over fresh herbs — bergamot, lemon, neroli, mint, basil — usually on a light woody or musky base.

Questions
- How much perfume goes into liquid detergent?
- A common working range is 0.3–0.8% of the finished product. Dose for what reaches the cloth, and check the IFRA certificate for household products.
- Why does my detergent smell good in the pack but not on clothes?
- Pack bloom and on-cloth deposition come from different materials. A fragrance built only for bloom will rinse away.
- Can I use a soap fragrance in floor cleaner?
- Sometimes, but solubility, the cleaner’s own odour and its pH all differ. Test it in the finished cleaner.
